Weekly Cadet season news. August 1st

The Lakeshore Cadet Intercity team (the Lightning) built upon their first victory on July 27th by winning 13-12 versus Valleyfield on July 30th! The game was never really in question as Lakeshore quickly generated a 10 run lead then held on for the win. Abby Brown pitched a shut-out inning with the help of an outstanding play of the game catch in left field on a hard fly ball over the head of our left fielder at the time (Lauren McMullen) who made a spectacular catch on the play for the first out of the inning to set the tone for the game!! Taylor Hayden had 3 runs batted in (RBI) and Skylar Fairhead hit a long double with the bases loaded (probably would have been a triple or maybe even a homerun had it played out) but only the first run counted as it made 5 runs-in for the inning. On the very disappointing side, Lauren McMullen slid into 3rd base in the final inning. It was yet another excellent slide but she jammed her foot against the base which is the type that is attached to a post and allows no give upon contact. Lauren had to be carried from the field and did not return to the game. For a very close-knit team it was a significant blow and it lead to a Valleyfield rally but the Lightning none-the-less held on for their second win in a row!!
